Exmasters Review: Is this Adult Website Hosting Company Good?

We’re looking at an interesting company today. Exmasters was founded in 2001, with an emphasis on hosting websites for the adult entertainment industry, but also just websites in general:exmasters home

That doesn’t mean Exmasters is bad, of course! Just unique.

It’s really a provider for general web hosting and high-traffic sites. Anyone can benefit. .

The simple, old-looking site is in line with the company’s pitch: get your hosting simply. Get it cheap.

So there are some obvious questions that arise:

Is Exmasters as cheap as it says? If so, is it still providing decent hosting for the price? Is this a company that will save the day, or a scam?

You’ll get answers to all of that and more, here.

Let’s get started with the good news:

Exmasters: Pros

Pro #1: Pretty good performance

Exmasters guarantees 99.99% uptime:exmasters uptime guarantee

That’s pretty impressive. Let me tell you why.

First, most hosting companies DO have an uptime guarantee. But most of those guarantees are for 99.9% uptime. 99.9% sounds high, but it actually means a lot of downtime:exmasters-uptime-99.9

If you’re just running a hobby site, that might be okay, but if you want visitors and customers, 43 minutes of downtime in a month is risky—even 10 minutes of downtime in a week.

But if you have 99.99% uptime, that extra decimal point seriously shrinks your downtime:exmasters-uptime-99.99

This is much better, of course.

And the thing to remember here is that Exmasters’ uptime guarantee does NOT mean you’ll ONLY get 99.99% uptime.

It means you’ll get AT LEAST 99.99% uptime—so most of the time, your uptime will be perfect. Exmasters has had 100% uptime for a while now.

Pro #2: Simpler, more transparent pricing

The billing for Exmasters is different than for most other hosting companies. While it depends on personal preference, I think OVERALL Exmasters’ is better.

But first, let me explain.

A typical hosting company will do the following:

  • Advertise a very low monthly price
  • Such a low monthly price is only available for a long-term commitment. For example, two or three years of service up-front.
  • The prices will increase considerably after the first term expires, however long that term lasts (a year, two years, etc).

So most of the time, if you get web hosting with another company, the prices you see aren’t really the prices you end up paying.

But with Exmasters, billing is MUCH more straightforward:

You pay the price shown for a package per month. You’ll be billed every month until you cancel:exmasters-price-checkout

That’s it.

Now, some people may still wish Exmasters had some other options with regards to pricing. For instance, the ability to buy in bulk (6 months or a year of service) and save some money for doing so.

But frankly, these plans are sufficiently low cost overall that it’s a minor issue.

A second question may arise from some of you: sure, the pricing is transparent and simple…but is it actually low cost, too?

About that…

Pro #3: Overall, good value web hosting:

First, let’s take a look at the prices for Exmasters’ six shared hosting plans:exmasters-price-all

There are more features, but these are the key components.

Now, I actually have some issues with the resource allotments. I’ll cover them in more depth later on.

But for now, let me be specific: if you need an OVERALL budget web hosting plan, these are still solid.

In particular, while the default resources aren’t great, users can buy more storage from their control panels with one-time purchases.

This allows customers who need more storage to get it, without upgrading their entire plan and having to pay more month-to-month.

Not a lot of hosting companies allow customers to do this at the level of shared hosting.

If your site won’t consume many resources, the simple monthly plans aren’t too bad. All the features you need are there:exmasters-features

It’s not the fanciest, but it’s all there.

That, plus the high uptime, means that any of these shared plans—but especially the first two or three, which are more affordable—are good budget hosting packages.

Pro #4: Good value on premium plans

I actually think the VPS plans provide more value per price than the shared plans. But you can make your own judgment on that—take a look:exmasters-vps

The VPS price range is on the low side—not just from start, but to finish. That can mean some limitations in resources, but for people who just need a boost of quality over shared hosting, these plans are excellent.

Additionally, all these plans can be customized further, and come with 2 TB of bandwidth—more than enough for most sites at the price points shown.

Like the VPS plans, the dedicated servers available are on the lower side for dedicated server price:dedicated

Which is great for people who want that level of quality and complexity, but don’t want to spend more than they need to.

And of course, the great thing about the VPS plans is that they’re still great performing options. And as an added bonus, customer support is very good at handling VPS plans:

In addition to the more common task of helping you migrate your site, they’ll also help you set up and customize your virtual server’s operating system (specifically, the kernel at the root of it).

So the plans have extra value, not just for the price, but the quality that comes with it.

Pro #5: Support reps are solid

One thing I like is that there are multiple support departments one can contact:support

Exmasters does have a live chat, but it’s only available during business hours.

In my experience, the live chat has performed well.

Representatives took a bit longer to respond than a larger company’s live chat would, but they were helpful and I could tell I wasn’t speaking to a bot or someone who didn’t care.

Moreover, that Skype is a contact option is quite nice. Many people prefer being able to chat without having to go to the hosting company’s website or a complicated interface.

Representatives are generally responsive and helpful, particularly if you contact the correct category.

They’ll help out with just about anything you need, and just about all of it will be free. For example, they’ll help you migrate your site, or help customize configuration files, etc.

It’s one of the benefits of a smaller hosting company that the customer support is more dedicated and helpful to the customer.

Exmasters: Cons

Con #1: Not actually that cheap, per-resource

As far as overall pricing goes, Exmasters is decent.

But in terms of resources, Exmasters is actually more expensive than some competitors.

I’ll look at two of the biggest names in hosting, both of which are known for providing value packages (low costs, but solid resources and performance): GoDaddy and Bluehost.

GoDaddy, at time of this writing, has a first tier at $5.99 a month, which renews at $8.99 a month. It comes with 100GB of storage.

GoDaddy’s prices fluctuate a lot because of constantly changing promotions, but let’s work with these numbers for now.

Right off the bat, we can see that none of Exmasters’ web hosting plans offers 100GB of storage, and the highest tier is $45 a month—much more expensive than GoDaddy, for only 20GB of storage.

We can also look at Bluehost. Bluehost’s first tier is $3.95 a month at the time of this writing, which renews at $7.99 a month.

While that may be more expensive over the course of two years than Exmasters’ first or second plan, it comes with 50GB of storage.

So in terms of storage-per-price, Exmasters actually falls short of many competitors.

Luckily, most people on shared web hosting plans don’t actually use that much storage for their sites.

And remember, you can buy more storage in your control panel without having to upgrade plans!

Bandwidth is frequently more important—the ability to support a certain amount of traffic.

But even there, Exmasters’ plans are pretty limited in bandwidth for the first two tiers.

Other hosting companies usually say “unmetered” or “unlimited” bandwidth. On shared hosting, that’s an exaggeration—usually, there is a limit somewhere, and it’s lower than many think.

But I’d still expect most entry level web hosting plans to have AT LEAST 10 GB of bandwidth allowance—which is what the second tier offers on Exmasters.

Con #2: In general, not great for power-intensive sites

This won’t be a huge issue for most readers, and it’s not a big flaw if you consider Exmasters’ general focus is on affordable and simple hosting solutions.

However, it’s still good to note the upper limits of Exmasters’ plans:

VPS plans allow for, at maximum: 8 cores, 16GB of RAM, and 1 TB of storage. All VPS servers come with 2 TB of bandwidth.

Other companies, even the ones that don’t specialize in VPS, frequently offer up to 32 GB of RAM, multiple TB of storage, multiple TB of bandwidth (usually 10 TB), and 16 or more CPU cores.

And if you go for a company that puts more emphasis on premium hosting, you can get plans that go way higher—64GB of RAM, for example.

Additionally, some rival companies have more customizable VPS products. For example, pay-per-use models, and or custom prices generated automatically per an amount of resources you set for yourself.

The VPS plans can be customized, but you have to do so by contacting customer support. This is slower than what many rivals offer in terms of setup.

Meanwhile, the dedicated plans are a bit better and  more customizable.

However, the upper limits of 16 GB of RAM and 50 GB of storage are not as high as what some rival companies may offer for their dedicated servers.

Overall, Exmasters still has good VPS and dedicated hosting plans, including per the price. This is only a con if you need a super high-end hosting plan, or want extreme flexibility with VPS.

Con #3: No informational support on Exmasters Website

Not having a live chat—that’s okay. It’s not ideal, but as long as reps are responsive and helpful, that’s good enough.

But the bigger support problem is the lack of informational material. Most hosting companies, including smaller ones, will at least have some sort of knowledge base.

However, with Exmasters, you have to rely solely on contacting customer support.

This can be made extra-frustrating when you remember that there’s no live chat, and the website can sometimes not provide enough details about products and pricing.

Con #4: Shared hosting plans have overage fees

First, let me offer some context, to be fair to Exmasters:

It’s true that most hosting companies don’t have overage fees, and in fact brag about how they do not have such fees.

Many of these companies claim to have unlimited bandwidth and unlimited storage. But on a shared hosting plan, these are usually just exaggerations:

Shared hosting is efficient because many people are sharing a server without any one individual being intensive on its resources.

So a host may not offer a hard limit outwardly on how much a shared hosting customer can consume, but if everyone takes advantage of that, the system wouldn’t work.

In practice, when a customer on a shared hosting plan starts taking up too much space or bandwidth, the company will ask that customer to upgrade to a higher plan.

In that context, an overage fee may not be so bad.

It may mean increasing your bill a little bit while keeping your overall hosting costs the same—while another hosting company may make you increase your overall costs.

If you look at the overage fee for Exmasters, it’s not too expensive:overage fee

The main issue here is that the storage amount is so low. At 500 MB of storage space and 1 GB of bandwidth, it’s easier to exceed your plan’s limit.

And as these plans OVERALL have less storage and bandwidth than most rival companies would offer, that holds for the pricier plans, too.

On the bright side, the overage fees decrease the higher your tier is.

If you pay for the highest tier, for example, you’d barely notice the increase unless you’re severely exceeding your plan limits:overage fee2

So it’s not the worst thing in the world, but it is pesky—a nuisance that feels outdated and most people would probably prefer to avoid.

Do we recommend Exmasters?

Honestly? This answer is trickier than usual, because Exmasters is a pretty unique hosting company.

I would NOT recommend Exmasters to people who need a host that provides good value in terms of resources or even features.

BUT, Exmasters is GREAT for people who just need a straightforward, affordable, and reliable hosting solution, and for whom resources are a secondary concern.

It’s also great for low-cost VPS and dedicated solutions, for those who want higher-end hosting at an affordable price.

So there you have it! It depends on what you’re looking for most out of your host. But with great performance and transparent pricing, Exmasters gets a lot of things right.

And if you don’t want to take my word for it? That’s fine. Just try it!

After all, you can buy just a month of Exmasters’ quality hosting for just a few bucks, without committing to anything longer.

Happy hosting!

Recommend them often. Exmasters is one of the best low-cost and feature-rich adult web hosting provider in the web. I have 5 client websites hosted with them and their support is above and beyond the call of duty and practically instant within minutes. They even assisted with a MySql coding that was nothing to do with them. I doubt there is anyone better than them.

Have had service provided by others before but as time has gone by, I have moved most things to Exmasters servers. The problems weren't easy, and my lack of experience in using a web hosting service didn't help things, but Exmasters staff worked through it and within a short period of time they had everything running smoothly. They were also able to direct me to several well written white papers that detailed the tasks I was working with.

SolaDrive Review: Is SolaDrive worth the cost?

Let’s talk about SolaDrive today.

But first, listen to this:

Managed server hosting has always been a topic of debate among experts. Some say they’re just a hyped up version of a dedicated server hosting.

Certainly the obvious difference can be pointed out as managed servers can have more priority when it comes to active service than any other hosting. But does that really matter in the broad range of things?

Well, SolaDrive is one such company that offers Managed VPS Hosting at a reasonable price without compromising on features. We hadn’t heard about it till recently but we gave it a shot and decided to put down our opinions in this review.

They were good years ago, I dont know how they got so low, maybe reducing costs... After 5 years with their VPS service, this year 2020 there has been many problems with my VPS, being DOWN for almost a MONTH!!! (moved sites to another hosting while they "reinstaled" it)... and they took sooooo long.... after that it was working ok (1-2minutes down every day) during 1.5months.... then crashed again with HOURS down every day... I'm asking for my money back and they are ignoring me.

How to Fix the WordPress HTTP Error

What is WordPress HTTP error?

WordPress HTTP error indicates that something went wrong during the file upload process. For example, when you try to add an image or other files to the media library, the WordPress HTTP error usually occurs.

wp error

Unfortunately, unlike browser problems, which generally have an HTTP status code, WordPress errors can be a little more challenging to diagnose. However, there’s no need to fear because this post will show you the top 11 strategies to fix the HTTP WordPress issue.

Furthermore, whether you’re uploading an image, a video, a PDF file, or any other file type that WordPress supports, the following methods will work for you.

11 Ways to Fix WordPress HTTP error

Fix 1: Confirming HTTP error.

A WordPress HTTP error can occur due to a momentary server issue. Before you try any of the suggestions in this article, make sure the mistake is always present. Start by waiting a few minutes and then re-uploading the media file. If the second try succeeds, it’s possible that a transient difficulty caused the error.

If the problem persists, continue reading for more solutions.

Fix 2: Clearing the browser cache.

Clear your browser cache before attempting any further options. Here’s how to go about it:

Step 1: Click on the three dots in the browser’s top right corner.

Step 2: Move to the “Settings” option and then go to “Privacy and Security.”

Step 3: Now click on “Clear Browsing data” and tick on all the checkboxes.

Step 4: Now click on “Clear data” and then try re-uploading the files.

clear cache

If the issue remains, move on to the next step.

Fix 3: Renaming the file and then retrying.

Another simple option is to make sure your file’s name does not have any special characters. A Few examples of punctuation marks are semicolons and apostrophes and they should be removed. Try to upload the file after removing these special characters.

Fix 4: Resizing the file.

Your web host determines the maximum file size you can upload to your WordPress site. The file size that is permitted might range from 2MB to 150MB. This error will occur if the file size exceeds the specified limit. Compress your file before re-uploading it.

There are a plethora of internet applications that can help you reduce the file size. You can also use image optimization plugins like Imagify.

Compressing photos, in general, is a good idea because it reduces website load time and improves SEO. However, it’s recommended to have smaller file sizes unless you’re a photographer or need high-resolution photographs on your site.

Try to upload the files again, and if the WordPress HTTP Error still occurs, try the other options to resolve it.

Fix 5: Switching browsers.

Users occasionally report HTTP issues when using one browser but not the other. Changing browsers may assist you in determining whether or not the problem is due to your website. If you can upload the file in another browser, you should contact your chosen platform’s support to figure out what’s causing the problem.

Fix 6: Checking the PHP version

WordPress requires PHP 5.2.4 or higher to work smoothly since version 3.2. If you don’t do this, you’ll end up with an HTTP error. In addition, some hosts utilize outdated versions of PHP, which means you won’t be able to upload photos to the WordPress media library no matter what you do. So, make sure your host is running PHP version 5.2.4 or higher.

Fix 7: Deactivating the plugins.

Plugins, particularly those linked to image optimization, are sometimes to blame. Deactivate them and try again to submit your image. Then, follow the steps to do it in just a few seconds:

Step 1: Go to the Plugins section from your WordPress Dashboard.

Step 2: Deactivate the Plugins by clicking on them.

deactivate plugins

If this resolves the problem, contact the plugin’s developer to see if they can assist you in determining the error.

Fix 8: Increasing the PHP memory limit.

If all else fails, your server may be running out of memory. Increase the limit to the recommended 256 MB to fix this. Then, follow the steps for it:
Step 1: open the wp-config.php file.

WordPress HTTP error wp config

Step 2: Add the following code to your wp-config.php: define(‘WP MEMORY LIMIT’, ‘256M’);

WordPress HTTP error add code to wp-config

Now try uploading the file again.

Fix 9: Editing the .htaccess file.

The .htaccess file is located in the root folder of your WordPress installation and serves as a gatekeeper for various functions. It manages where requests are sent, among other things. Open .htaccess:

WordPress HTTP error htaccess file

Now, add the following code to fix the HTTP issue in WordPress:

SetEnv MAGICK_THREAD_LIMIT 1

After that, try adding your file again to check if the problem has been resolved. If that doesn’t work, here are some other code snippets to try:

SecFilterEngine Off
SecFilterScanPOST Off

or

<filesmatch "(async-upload\.php|wp-cron\.php|xmlrpc\.php)$"="">
Satisfy Any
Order allow,deny
Allow from all
Deny from none

Try implementing them one at a time, saving your changes before re-uploading your media file.

Fix 10: Changing the library for the image editor

WordPress comes with two image editors by default:

  • imagick

Both of these terms will be used interchangeably by WordPress. Imagick, on the other hand, is known to have memory problems and is more likely to throw HTTP errors. The solution is to add a snippet of code to our functions.php file that forces WordPress to use the GD Library.

In wp-content > themes > your-theme, functions.php is located in the theme or child theme folder.

why choose

Apart from it, they also promise a 100-Day money-back guarantee, which is huge in the context of the number of days. This shows their confidence in the products and services which they provide for the customers.

We have abundant reasons in this section to rate them best for this section, let’s take a look at other factors for our review.

Pricing and Features

Most importantly, Exabytes provide various services, and these are affordable for all sections of users as per their needs.

Their main services include;

  • Domain Registration
  • Website and Marketing
  • CRM and Office Tools
  • WordPress
  • Hosting and Email
  • VPS and Server
  • Web Security

We are going to cast our focus on the hosting and email section of services. This will remain our prime focus of this entire review. Let’s take a look.

This comes with shared hosting and its solutions along with email solutions as well. Shared hosting is available for small businesses and also can be customized based on requirements. These are mainly categorized as;

  • Small Business Web Hosting (for small businesses)
  • SSD Web Hosting (for e-comm/enterprise)
  • Reseller Web Hosting (customized as per need)

Taking an example of small business web hosting, which is the most widely used hosting, Exabytes have a lot to offer along with their web hosting plans.

Some of the included features are the high speed branded server, which keeps the performance up to the mark. Their server and data center are located in Malaysia, and they have central control.

SFTP/SSH access removes all security concerns and also provides faster file transfer. Your website will also be encrypted with a Free SSL certificate being provided by them.

The auto-backup feature keeps your data secure without human interventions. So, now let’s look at the pricing of these services;

They have categorized the packages into three main categories, they are:

  • EBiz Lite (RM 14.99/mo)
  • EBiz Plus (RM 19.99/mo)
  • EBiz Gold (RM 29.99/mo)

Note that RM is the Malaysian currency which stands for Malaysian Ringgit. 1 Malaysian Ringgit is equivalent to 0.23 USD.

Exabytes Web Hosting pricing

The very basic plan EBiz Lite offers 10GB disk space and 20GB monthly data transfer, which can be sufficient for small businesses. 10 email accounts and 1GB memory make it the best one to grab at an affordable rate.

But, in case the requirements are more and backup is essential in the service, then EBiz Plus will be the best choice with 50GB disk space and 100GB monthly data transfer.

For a large scale requirement and if more traffic is expected on your website, then EBiz Gold will be the best option with 50,000 visits allowed per month along with 500GB of large space.

Similarly, they have other two shared web hosting as well, which are for even more complex usages. So, our parameters of measurement convey that these rates are pretty affordable for basic plans but pocket-friendly when we go for higher and premium services.

Exabytes Web Hosting linux plan Exabytes Web Hosting reseller plan

Due to their good deals for beginners and slightly expensive ones for the high-end packages, we find them to be a bit costly overall. We rate them well in this section. Let’s talk about the most critical thing, customer support now.

Customer Support

They have an assurance of providing customer support 24/7 for any issue, be it technical or general. And to our test, they qualify on this promise. They have an instant chat-based interaction on their website where they reply within 3-4 minutes, which is exceptionally fast.

The live chat feature makes it much easier for users to interact with service providers. They can know more and in detail about the services which they are going to use.

Your queries can be related to Sales, Billing, or Technical Support; all of them get resolved via instant chat.

They also provide FAQs to know more about their Email-setup, billing, and Password resets, which are the most common queries of the people.

So, we rate them excellent in the customer support section due to their prompt and instant replies.

They have a within 24 hours account activation feature, which makes it easy for the customers in order to kick-start. Their quick service allows the customer to focus more on their work rather than indulging in these technicalities.

They have a list of their clients who are in good numbers and are proof of their good services.

Ease of use

Customer support helps users get through any difficulty during the entire process, and hence, we rate them overall exceptionally good and recommend them.

With a promise of security with high-class services, it becomes more of a mandate than a choice to go for Exabytes if you want to enter the world of hosting. So, we give thumbs up based on our tests to the Exabytes hosting platform.

Web.com review: Everything you should know before buying it!

Web.com is a hidden giant in hosting. As far as popular, “household” names go, I don’t know if Web makes the list.

But Web.com has over 3 million subscribers, which automatically puts it in the major leagues, and its revenue in 2017 was over a billion dollars. “Wow” is right.

Aside from simply being huge, it was founded in 1999—so it’s also old, having been around nearly two decades.

Okay—what on earth is Web.com doing to be so quietly popular?

A lot, of course…but also, surprisingly little. I’ve been using Web.com for a little while now and I’ve come to realize a thing or two about it that I’d like to tell you about. Keep reading, and we’ll get into the details!

Further Information:

Pros

I’ll kick us off here with some positive aspects of Web.com.

Web.com is simple in its pricing plans—namely because

Netfirms Review: 7 Pros & 5 Cons, Is It a Good Option For You?

Netfirms” is a name that might sound out of date in the modern climate, but don’t let that fool you.

Netfirms was founded way back in 1998, making it one of the oldest hosting companies around.

And because Netfirms has been around since 1998, it’s clear that it’s got something special to have lasted so long.

Not to mention, Netfirms can claim to power over 1.2 MILLION sites, which puts it in the same tier as other famous hosting companies.

So, does this mean Netfirms is a good option for you? Or is it an outdated relic that’s somehow managed to survive?

I’ll be answering those questions, and more, in this article.

Let’s start with the high points of using Netfirms:

Netfirms: Pros

Pro #1: Good performance

I wouldn’t say Netfirms has TOP-tier performance, even among shared web hosts. But, it does have overall pretty good performance nonetheless.

Netfirms actually guarantees 99.9% uptime on all hosting plans, which is pretty common among hosts. In real life, though, 99.9% uptime isn’t that great:

netfirms uptime

Because in real life, that’s about 43 minutes of downtime over the course of a month.

Luckily for us, the 99.9% is just a guarantee—and Netfirms typically doesn’t even go that low.

Uptime with Netfirms is still on the higher side of average, and keeps the solid performance up consistently over time.

Additionally, while response times are pretty fast overall.

So the ultimate result is, if not the best performance ever, performance that is still pretty good.

Pro #2: Both web hosting and website builder plans

Netfirms has web hosting plans:

netfirms hosting

And Netfirms has website builder plans:

netfirms site builder

Although these are of course separate products, there is some overlap:

The website builder plans come with hosting included.

However, as the website builder is so affordable (more on that later), it provides a viable alternative to the web hosting package for some people.

Pro #3: Web hosting plans have decent prices

Let me be clear: OVERALL, the prices for Netfirms web hosting plans are pretty standard.

They’re not really on the lower-end, or on the higher end, but very much the median.

So why did I say they’re decent?

The thing I like more about the prices are that they’re good at even a one-year time commitment:

netfirms web hosting prices

If you look closely, you’ll see that the difference between one and two years of services is not so huge when broken down per-month.

Of course, you CAN get a much lower price (proportionately speaking) by committing to three years. So there’s still a discount as a “reward” for commitment.

But many hosting companies have single-year prices that are noticeably higher than for two years.

The result is that many people are attracted by the low prices advertised by a hosting company, but are disappointed when they find out that they’d have to commit too long.

So keeping the price low on that first year is great for businesses that don’t want to cough up too much up-front, and who are unsure about using Netfirms for a longer period of time.

Though, it’s worth noting that these plans will still renew at a higher cost after the first term expires.

Pro #4: Web hosting plans have good features

Of course, we can’t fully evaluate the pricing by the numbers alone. So let’s dive into the features.

The first thing to note is that, overall there isn’t too much of a difference between the features in the three tiers:

netfirms- web hosting features

As you can see, the main difference relevant to most users is in the number of sites allowed. But even then, the second tier also allows unlimited sites.

The other major differences are in the number of databases and FTP (file transfer protocol) logins permitted.

On a more minor note, the third tier alone has premium support.

But that’s about as far as the differences between the tiers go.

Additionally, all the web hosting plans have these features:

netfirms web hosting features2

There’s some overlap with what I already showed you, but the key points here are the marketing tools and ecommerce solutions.

Note that the website builder is not actually included for free—it’s an error on the website.

Pro #5: Site builder prices are VERY good

The web hosting prices were good for having low prices on the first year, but are otherwise normal.

Meanwhile, the prices for the website builder are much more impressive:

netfirms site builder prices

As you can see, there are no discounts for longer time commitments.

Some will find this frustrating, but the truth is, the prices are so low to begin with that I’d find it hard to complain.

Anyway, the price range here for these plans is very low compared to other website builder plans.

For example: Wix is one of the most popular website builders around, and it starts at $13 a month. Ecommerce features on Wix start at $23 a month.

Meanwhile, Squarespace starts at $12 a month with ecommerce starting at $18 a month. Weebly starts at $6 a month.

So as you can see, Netfirms is significantly cheaper than its biggest competitors.

That, of course, leads us to the next question: are the features actually decent for those prices? Surely they’d be lacking, for the costs to be so low?

Well…

Pro #6: Site builder features are solid, especially considering price

For an overview, let’s take a look at the basic features allotted to the three website builder plans:

netfirms site builder features

As you’d expect, the first tier is a bit limited, but the second tier offers unlimited pages and a few other useful tools. The third tier is the most fully featured, obviously.

But it’s worth noting that ALL tiers, including the first one, have these features:

netfirms site builder features2

This is more impressive, particularly in the marketing department:

Integrations with Facebook and social media, plus contact management and lead capture forms, are great for all tiers, but make the first couple tiers especially good for their price.

Plus, the ability to customize layouts—not just colors and fonts—is great to have available at the entry level, which may typically be more limited in what it can do.

Perhaps most importantly, the ecommerce features add-up.

This is essential because competing site builders typically have multiple e-commerce enabled plans. Meaning the features and capabilities scale up too.

Netfirms only has ONE ecommerce-enabled plan, so the more features it can include, the better it can keep up.

So here are those ecommerce features:

site builder features3

Most of these are basic.

By this I mean, the first tier of just about any ecommerce website builder (on Wix, Shopify, BigCommerce, etc) would allow digital product sales, inventory and tax management.

The same goes for accepting most cards and payment processors (like PayPal or Stripe).

However, allowing coupons and discounts is more unique. Some platforms reserve one or even both of these features to their second tiers.

Shipping integrations are also a feature necessary to keep up with the site builder platforms that focus on ecommerce.

And when you factor into all this the fact that every tier also gets marketing features, I’d say that the third tier is indeed pretty robust.

I wouldn’t say that it’s a replacement for the high-end store builders, but more on that later.

Pro #7: Netfirms provides good Customer support

As you can see from the live chat, customer support representatives respond quickly and effectively:

chat

Representatives can also be contacted by phone, but you get the idea:

As far as talking to actual customer support agents goes, things are solid.

There are some issues I have with the knowledge base, but I’ll get to them later.

For now though, suffice it to say that flaws aside, the knowledge base still has useful information and is a viable resource.

So with that combined with representatives, Netfirms overall has pretty good customer support, even if it’s nothing to write home about.

Netfirms: Cons

Con #1: Hosting aside from regular web hosting is limited

Basically, Netfirms only offers shared web hosting packages.

If you just care about web hosting, then great! Netfirms’ shared web hosting packages are pretty solid, as I talked about.

But if you want a more advanced form of hosting, like cloud, VPS (virtual private server), or dedicated hosting, you’re out of luck with Netfirms.

Con #2: Knowledge base can be clunky, and website info is wrong

While the knowledge base is not terrible, it does have some flaws that affect its usability.

It’s mainly because of how the topics are categorized. Take a look again at these support categories:

knowledge base1

Seems normal, right?

And when you click on a category, you’ll usually find that it’s pretty normal, with a list of support articles and additional sub-categories:

knowledge base

But the reason I say you’ll “usually” find it’s normal, is sometimes the categories don’t work.

If you click the second category, “Advanced hosting,” for example:

knowledge base

Most of them work, however.

Also, some people may not like the formatting of the topic articles: it’s like a cross between a search result and a typical knowledge base with browsing.

Sometimes less immediately relevant articles feature most prominently, and seem to conflict with the general hierarchy of a topic category. So it’s sometimes not so great for browsing.

With that being said, the knowledge base is still overall useful.

As for the website…I don’t think there’s much I need to say.

Take a look at this simple live chat interaction one more time:

chat

Listing the website builder as free and included with hosting plans is a MAJOR mistake.

People may choose to buy hosting plans because of this: it’s a powerful incentive to get a hosting package, especially when the company at hand specializes in website builders enough to offer them as separate products.

Con #3: First website builder plan lacks analytics

I understand that it may sound nitpicky—after all, it’s just one feature, and I already said that the first tier overall still has good features.

That’s generally, true, but here’s why I’m pointing out analytics in particular:

Typically, you can get at least basic website analytics on the first tier of just about any platform.

A lot of companies offer it in their entry-level web hosting packages, and just about all website builder companies offer it in their first tiers.

To be fair, second or third tiers of hosting or website builder plans will usually offer MORE ADVANCED analytics than a first tier.

And so it’s understandable that Netfirms’ analytics is “comprehensive” and starts at the second tier.

But there should still be something more basic for the first tier, AT LEAST—especially because the other great features are made less valuable without a basic ability to understand your traffic.

Con #4: Not as well-equipped for those with advanced business needs

I stand by my earlier take on Netfirms’ ecommerce plan: it’s overall pretty good and can keep up with the plans of larger competitors.

However, I’d like to emphasize here that it’s very good for the PRICE specifically. And it can keep up with competitors, but more so on rival entry-level ecommerce plans.

But businesses with more complex ecommerce needs should still look outside of Netfirms.

Some competitors offer more advanced shipping integrations and features, including special discounts.

Dropshipping in particular is better suited for an online store builder like Shopify or BigCommerce.

Additionally, some rival platforms offer better built-in marketing features, or have a wide collection of integrations available for boosting features via third parties.

While it’s true that Netfirms’ marketing tools are great for the price, they’re not advanced enough for more advanced needs.

Con #5: Default security measures are unclear on Netfirms

About the best you can find from Netfirms’ site is a few things about how sites are protected with SSL (which is good, but basic and nearly universal).

You can also click on their “privacy” section, which directs you to the privacy page of the company that owns Netfirms—Endurance International Group (EIG).

Thankfully, EIG outlines the security practices it enforces for its data centers, and it looks solid:

security

And there’s some elaboration on how EIG makes sure its subsidiary companies (like Netfirms, Bluehost, HostGator, etc) are up to industry standards:

security1

So that all seems okay.

But to be honest, I’d like to hear more on Netfirms specifically. Where are the data centers that Netfirms operates with? What’s the security like there?

What digital infrastructure does Netfirms have set up to protect its customers specifically?

But aside from the lack of details, one last concern is that Netfirms could be more vulnerable because it’s owned by a conglomerate.

EIG has been known to consolidate its subsidiaries not just on paper, but literally: cramming multiple hosts into big data centers.

This became most apparent as a problem in 2013, when a major outage took down millions of sites across four major hosting companies—because of ONE problem in ONE EIG data center.

The good news is that the outages that made EIG infamous among some observers appear to have mostly gone away.

The bulk of them happened in 2013-2014, and with nothing notable happening in the last 6 years, it would appear EIG (and by extension, its subsidiaries) is largely more trustworthy now than before.

Do we recommend Netfirms?

So, the big question: with all the pros and cons above taken into account, does Netfirms get our recommendation?

I’d say yes, but it’s a very specific yes:

If you want more hosting options, or imagine eventually scaling up into VPS or cloud hosting, then Netfirms isn’t for you.

And if you have a more complex site or online business in general, Netfirms’ shared hosting plans and website builder plans likely won’t give you the full power you need.

BUT:

If you are looking for web hosting that provides good value for the price, Netfirms is solid. And if you want a website builder for a smaller site/business, Netfirms provides even better value.

Or in short: if you’re looking for smaller and more affordable web solutions, Netfirms has you covered.

How to Fix the HTTP 405 Method Not Allowed Error

HTTP 405 Method Not Allowed error mainly occurs when the web server’s configuration prohibits performing certain actions for a specific URL. This is also considered an HTTP response status code, indicating that the server knows the request method, but the target resources do not support it. Therefore, it is a client-side error.

425 error

In other words, the HTTP 405 Method Not Allowed error is simply the situation where the web browser requests for accessing any web page and your web server also recognizes it, but it rejects the used HTTP method. Thus, the browser cannot access the requested web page, causing the HTTP 405 Method Not Allowed error.

Particularly, three scenarios might lead to the HTTP 405 Method Not Allowed error, which is as follows:

  1. The HTTP method is banned because of misconfigured web servers of any software components which were supposed to perform the given actions for the desired URL resource.
  2. The website operator bans the HTTP method for security reasons. The error exists in the URL resource of the website, causing the HTTP 405 Method Not Allowed error.
  3. The website operator’s hosting provider does not allow the HTTP method. This mainly occurs with the POST method required to enter data, and it gets blocked by the providers for some security concerns, causing the HTTP 405 Method Not Allowed error.

Fixing the HTTP 405 Method Not Allowed error:

You won’t be able to fix a 405 Method Not Allowed error message on your own if you run across one on a web project. While tactics like refreshing the page, rebooting the router, or verifying the proxy settings can usually cure problems with other HTTP errors, they are futile against the 405 error.

In this scenario, it’s good to contact the website’s operator or administrator to report the problem or get more information about the root causes.

If you are the website owner that is displaying the 405 HTTP code to visitors, the situation is different. You have numerous choices for resolving the problem, depending on the cause of the error message. However, you should fix the problem as soon as possible to avoid enraging your users and being penalized by search engines.

Here are the seven best fixes for the HTTP 405 Method Not Allowed error.

7 ways to fix HTTP 405 Method Not Allowed error

Fix 1: Check whether the provided URL is correct or not.

The most common cause of a 405 Method Not Allowed error is entering the incorrect URL, which may sound overly straightforward. However, most web servers are extensively guarded and designed to deny access to inappropriate URLs to prevent users from visiting the wrong pages (or trying to reach pages that don’t exist).

Before proceeding any further, double-check that you’ve provided the correct URL for the website you want to visit. Making mistakes, such as omitting a letter or misspelling a word, is easier than you would believe. It’s also possible that simply refreshing the page will cause it to load correctly.

However, if the error cause is something else, the below-mentioned measures will help you resolve the same.

Fix 2: Check the codes of the website to find the bugs.

If your website’s code contains an error, your web server may be unable to respond to requests from a content delivery network correctly. Look for flaws in your code or copy it to a development machine. It’ll go through a complete debugging process, simulating the exact circumstances where your 405 Method Not Allowed Error happened and allowing you to identify where things went wrong.

HTTP 405 Method Not Allowed: 405 code debugging

This will hopefully resolve the error. However, if it does not, then follow the measures provided below.

Fix 3: Check over your server-side logs.

Application logs and server logs are the two sorts of server-side logs. Application logs keep track of your website’s whole history, including which web pages users requested and which servers it was linked to.

Server logs give details about the hardware that powers your server, including its health and status. Examine both sorts of server-side logs for any potentially dangerous information about your server or website.

HTTP 405 Method Not Allowed: checking the log files

Fix 4: Cross-check the database changes.

Even if you uninstall an extension, the changes it made to your system may not be completely reversed.

Some extensions, particularly those for the WordPress CMS, have complete control over the program, including full database access. An extension can change database records produced and handled by other extensions rather than the extension itself.

When this happens, the extension may not know how to undo database record changes, causing the extension to ignore them after uninstallation.

track database changes

In this case, the best course of action is to open the database and manually search for tables and records that may have been tampered with by the extension. Check for the other measures provided below if this does not resolve the HTTP 405 Method Not Allowed error.

Fix 5: Checking the files’ configuration for the webserver to fix HTTP 405 Method Not Allowed error.

If double-checking database updates didn’t work, look for inadvertent redirect instructions in your web server software’s configuration files.

Your application is served by one of two web servers: Apache or Nginx.

If you’re using Apache, make sure the Apache server configuration file and the .htaccess file are correct.

Step 1: After you’ve found the .htaccess file, open it in a text editor and look for RewriteXXX directives.

Step 2: If you come across any unusual RewriteCond or RewriteRule directives, use the # character prefix to comment them out temporarily.

htaccess-file

Check to see if the problem has been fixed by restarting your web server.

If you’re using nginx, make sure the nginx.conf file is correct. /usr/local/nginx/conf, /etc/nginx, or /usr/local/etc/nginx are all popular locations for this file.

Step 1: After you’ve found the file, open it in a text editor and look for directives with the 405 response code flag.

Step 2: Any irregularities should be commented out, and the server should be restarted to determine if the problem has been rectified.

HTTP 405 Method Not Allowed: nginx config file

Fix 6: Uninstall newer extensions and modules or disable new plugins.

Extensions and plugins might improve the functionality of your website, but they can also cause serious harm.

Some extensions have complete control over your system and can modify any code, including PHP, CSS, HTML, JavaScript, and your database. In this scenario, uninstalling any new extensions you’ve recently added to your system is recommended.

Here are the steps which you must follow to check whether any plugin causes the error:

Step 1: Use FTP to connect to your server. Login to the server and go to the WordPress root folder. It is commonly referred to as ‘www’ or ‘public_HTML.’ The files with names like ‘wp-content or ‘wp-admin’ are found in the root.

Step 2: After that, go to ‘wp-content and rename the ‘plugins’ folder to whatever you like.

HTTP 405 Method Not Allowed: plugins

Step 3: Return to the site to see if the problem still exists. If not, the error could have been caused by any plugin. Return to the FTP account and rename the folder “plugins” once more.

Step 4: Now go into the folder and alter the names of the individual folders one by one, checking the website each time to determine which one is causing the “HTTP 405 Method Not Allowed” problem.

Step 5: Either remove the error-causing plugin or look for its documentation online.

Fix 7: Manually debugging the application scripts or code.

If none of the suggestions above worked, it’s time to investigate whether the error is caused by a flaw in some custom code within your program.

Manually debugging your application and parsing your application and server logs can help you figure out what’s wrong.

Make a clone of the application and debug it step by step on a local development machine. Then, when something goes wrong, you’ll be able to replicate the exact scenario that caused the 405 Method Not Allowed error and inspect the application code.

Conclusion

There are various causes that lead to several errors when accessing a website, and 405 Method Not Allowed error is one of those. However, this is not at all a problematic situation as after following the above mentioned measures you can easily resolve it in no time.
