Step 1. Transfer domain from Godaddy to BlueHost

Open Domain settings

Login to GoDaddy and click on Manage for the domain you wish to migrate.

Disable domain lock

If you’ve got Domain lock turned on, be sure to turn this off.

Get authorization code

To complete the domain transfer, you’ll need an authorization code from your existing registrar.

Before you click “Get authorization code”, make sure you have the correct email address updated with GoDaddy.

If the email is going to abuse@godaddy.com, then it means your email is not configured correctly in Godaddy to receive authorization code. So, better contact Godaddy and get it fixed.

Click on “Get authorization code” to have GoDaddy mail you the authorization code and domain information.

The email looks similar to this:

Login to BlueHost and enter your authorization code.

The domains option is found under cPanel settings. Click on Transfer.

Enter your domain name.

Next, enter the authorization code you received via email.

You’ll now receive another email containing a second verification code. Enter the second verification code.

Change the name servers.

Choose the option to update the name servers to BlueHost.

The name servers for BlueHost are ns1.blueHost.com and ns2.blueHost.com.

Additionally, choose a renewal option, update your contact information and agree to the Terms of Service.

Finish the checkout process.

Accept pending transfer on GoDaddy

Go back to GoDaddy transfers and accept the pending transfer.

PRO TIP:

If you want to keep your domain at Godaddy and only have hosting on Bluehost, then you need to create an addon domain at BlueHost, then add above given nameservers on Godaddy.

Step 2. Transfer your files

Open GoDaddy Web Hosting Manager

Login to GoDaddy and navigate to Web Hosting Manager.

Create an FTP user account

Navigate to FTP settings and create an FTP user account.

Also, make a note of your FTP address.

Download files and folders

Connect to your FTP address with an FTP client and download your website’s files and folders.

Upload files to BlueHost

Login to BlueHost cPanel and open File Manager.

Upload the files and folders downloaded from your GoDaddy account into the domain’s directory.

Step 3. Migrate your database

If your website uses a database, you’ll have to migrate it along with your domain and files.

Login to phpMyAdmin

Under GoDaddy Web Hosting Manager, click on phpMyAdmin to access the database.

Export database from GoDaddy

Click on Export to start exporting your database.

Keep format as SQL and select the database names to export.

Import database into BlueHost

Navigate to phpMyAdmin on your BlueHost cPanel and import the database you exported from GoDaddy.

Import database on Bluehost

Navigate to BlueHost “Database Tools” section and click on “phpMyAdmin”. Create a new database here. Then click on “Import”, select the SQL file and click “Go”.

How to transfer emails from Godaddy to Bluehost?

Step A : Create Email Account.

First, create a new email account on Bluehost.

Just make sure that you create the same email ID as you created in Godaddy.

For example if your email id in Godaddy is: chrisw@hostingpill.com, you need to create the same email id (chrisw@hostingpill.com) in Bluehost.

Ensure that there is no spelling or capitalization change.

Also give the same password in the new account that you gave in the old one. You can change this once migration is complete.

Step B: Create two accounts in your Mail Client

In your email client (i.e Outlook / Thunderbird in Microsoft Windows OR Mail app on Mac), create two new email accounts as given below:

Email Account 1:

Email ID: <Use Godaddy Email ID>

Password: <Use Godaddy email id Password>

Server Type: IMAP server of Godaddy

Email Account 2:

Email ID: <Use Bluehost Email ID>

Password: <Use same password as Godaddy email id>

Server Type: IMAP server of Bluehost

You should use the servers hostname for the new server and the IP address/hostname for the old server.

Step C: Transfer emails from Godaddy to Bluehost

Once you have connected with both the accounts, open up the inbox for your Godaddy account.

Select the emails you wish to transfer for and copy it (select mails and then Control + C on Windows). Then select the inbox of Bluehost server and paste it (control + V).  Repeat the same process for folders.

If you have a lot of emails, give the accounts a few minutes to finish syncing up. Once they’re done, your old Godaddy emails will be in your Bluehost mailbox.

Conclusion:

If you are follow these steps, you can easily transfer domain from Godaddy to BlueHost. As always, take backup before you start the migration process. Let me know if anything is not clear by commenting below.
