3 Easy Steps To Transfer Domain from Godaddy to Namecheap

Here is an article to help you transfer your website from GoDaddy to Namecheap.

GoDaddy to Namecheap Transfer Steps:

A. Godaddy Domain Transfer

Step 1: Login to your GoDaddy account.

Before you start go to GoDaddy.com and login with your account and go to Domain Manager.

Step 2: Open Domain settings

Go to the settings options of the domain you wish to transfer.

Step 3: Disable Domain lock

Make sure that you have turned off the domain lock; if that is already enabled for your domain.

Step 4: Get Authorization Code

Before you can transfer the domain, you need to have authorization code from GoDaddy. To get a authorization code, make sure you have a correct email address listed with GoDaddy.

GoDaddy will send you email on this email address with authorization code and domain information. Click on “Get authorization code”.

The email you will receive will look like this.

Step 5: Transfer domain to Namecheap.com

Now login to Namecheap.com; on the main page search bar, select domain transfer.

Enter the domain you want to transfer and click on the search button.

Now it will show you all the details regarding your domain, like the current registrar, registrar lock status, and give you some other acknowledgments about the domain admin email address and if the domain has privacy service enabled should be turned off.

At last, enter the authorization code you have received. Once you are gone through the check list, click on “Yes to all” option and then click on “Add to Cart” icon.

Now on the right side, click on “View Cart”.

Step 6: Checkout at Namecheap

It will show all the items we have added in the cart and the fee that will be charged for this transaction.

In this cart it will show you the transfer/subscription fee for one year and fee that The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) charge. It also provides whois guard protection for one year at no cost.

If there is any promotion code you have, enter it or else click on Confirm Order. Once you’re are done with payment you will receive an email to authorize the transfer.

Click on the link mention in the email and it will open a new window where you must accept that you want to transfer the domain.

Step 7: Acceptance at GoDaddy

Once you will submit it, the transfer process will be started.

Now go back to your GoDaddy account and go to domain Pending transfer request Option.

Click on the link to accept the transfer and you domain will be transferred in few minutes.

B. Transfer your Files

Step 1: Open GoDaddy Web Hosting Manager

Login to your Godaddy account and go to web hosting manager.

Step 2: Create a FTP account

Go to FTP settings and create a FTP user account.

Now make a note of your FTP account settings.

Step 3: Download your Website

Now connect to your FTP site using any FTP client like FileZilla and download your website on your computer.

Step 4: Upload your files to NameCheap.com

Login to your NameCheap account cPanel and email click on file manager.

Upload all your files on NameCheap.

C. Moving a Database

Step 1: Login to phpMyAdmin

If your website contains database than you should move the database with your files as well. Under GoDaddy web hosting manager, go to MySQL database.

Now click on phpMyAdmin database to get access to.

Step 2: Export Database from GoDaddy

Click on Export to start exporting your database.

Keep the format as SQL and select the databases you want to export.

Step 3: Import Database to NameCheap

Now login to your namecheap account’s cPanel and import the database you have exported from GoDaddy.

Go to database tools and select phpMyAdmin, now create a new database and click on import then select the SQL file you have downloaded from GoDaddy.

Conclusion

If you follow these steps you can easily transfer your website from GoDaddy to NameCheap.
